The Planning Division is responsible for the Comprehensive Plan/long range planning, current planning, historic preservation, urban design, research, greenspace protection, intergovernmental coordination, special studies/reports, and redevelopment.
Site construction approval is required for all land disturbing activities except for those activities (minor landscaping, single family residence construction, agriculture) outlined in Section 50-74 of the Cobb County Code. This section coordinates the review and approval process for all site construction documents submitted to Cobb County for permitting. The submitted construction documents are reviewed for compliance to applicable county ordinances and development standards.
Zoning Division personnel provides professional advice on land use regulations and other zoning matters to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, the Board of Commissioners, and county management, so that their decisions assist with strategic decision making with the intention of serving the best interests of the citizens of Cobb County.
